We had a great couple of days settling back into our routines and getting ready to start a new year. There was a lot of discussion about where we are headed to prepare them for 4th grade and they promised me they were up for the task!!
Report cards went home on Friday. Please keep the report card at home and send the white envelope with your signature back in to school on Monday. If you have questions or concerns about the report card, please don't hesitate to contact me!
Also, we sent home their fact fluency for not only addition and subtraction but their first multiplication and division fluency. Please sign the bottom of those and return them as well. This should give you an idea of where your child is and what they might need to work on to achieve fact fluency. I can't stress enough how vital it is that your child have a solid handle on their math facts going into fourth grade. This should be a skill that you practice daily.
We will be introducing a fun program with the kids on Monday called Book Scouts. We will be talking to them about it as well as sending information home. In third grade they are required to not only understand different genres, but read from them as well. This will be a fun way to have them reading the different genres. The reward for this will be a third grade camping day. Our room moms are already working to think of fun things to do with the kids, but if you are a camping person, reach out to them and I am sure they would love the help!!!
This nine weeks we will be introducing some new topics to them in the curriculum. In math we will be learning about perimeter, fractions and elapsed time. If you could start talking about these things with them in "real life" this will help them make a better connection. Elapsed time can be difficult for some, so if you practice at home, this could really help! In language arts we will be discussing different kinds of adjectives and adverbs. I'm looking forward to some creative writing!!! In reading we will continue with our Daily 5 and work on some specific skills with each reader. We will delve into character studies using the book Peter Pan. This is our first year using Peter Pan and I am excited for the kids to get to actually read a classic!
Thank you all for continued support as we truly turn the corner in this school year. These kiddos are growing by leaps and bounds and it is truly a joy to watch!!! As always if you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact us!!
