Just a few notes:
I am out Wed-Friday this week and Thur-Friday next week. If you need something addressed quickly, please email Kara ([email protected]). Homework: We had a class meeting this morning about homework. We will not be assigning the spiral homework for the rest of the year, however it is VITAL that they continue to read and practice those math facts. If they do not have a good handle on those math facts, 4th grade math is going to be a bear. We talked about how we will be sharpening those skills for the rest of the year. We are playing a lot of games with math facts, it is not fun if they don’t know them and it becomes pretty obvious who is practicing and who is not. Bare book: Please go ahead and order your child’s bare book. Please send that in as well as 5-7 pictures of your child throughout their life. We need these no later than next Monday (4/30). https://www.amazon.com/Studio-Blank-Peter-Pauper-Press/dp/1441317368/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523305656&sr=8-2&keywords=blank+book+hardcover From Mr. Hurley: Evening in the Garden is next Tuesday and the kids have been working hard! For the best seating BRING A BLANKET http://eveninginthegarden.wikispaces.com/Evening+in+the+Garden+Information Field Day: (from Mrs. Mattingly) Our field days are coming up soon! This year we will be doing it in two days. 3-5 grades will be on Monday, May 7 at 9:00-12:00. K-2 grades will be on Tuesday, May 8 at 9:00-12:00. This year we are asking for two volunteers from each classroom. Instead of using sign-up genius to sign up for time slots, I am going to have the classroom volunteers stay with their own class the entire day. They will meet me early that morning so I can go over each station and explain the rules. I will also send home a list of each station and instructions prior to that day so they can get familiar with the stations. 3rd-5th grade volunteers will need to meet me at 8:15 on Monday, May 8. K-2nd volunteers will need to meet me at 8:15 on Tuesday, May 9. We will meet down on the black top to go around to each station. The volunteers will then get with their own classes to begin the day. Room moms, it is up to you if you want to be one of the volunteers, or maybe you just want to hang with your class without having a job. I just need the names of two dependable volunteers sent to me by May 2. Please email the names and email addresses to me at [email protected] instead of sending them to your teacher. Thank you so much for your help! We are very excited about this fun event! Sincerely, Kelly Mattingly **Let me know (Mrs. Vance) if you would like to volunteer and I will put your name down… first come first serve!** I saw a meme the other day with a football player holding up four fingers with the title "Hang on Teachers, It's the Fourth Quarter".
I think that can apply to all of us! We talked about this meme today in class and how no matter where you are in the football game you have to play all four quarters. So here we are in the 4th quarter and we still have many things to do to push ahead! First, let me say THANK YOU to all of those that helped and donated towards our Camp Wannastemalotta day! It was so much fun and I think the kids had a great time! It was a great reward for a job well done! It was successful because of your support!!! Here a few upcoming things that you need to be aware of: Milestone Testing starts tomorrow! Here is the schedule: Tuesday 4/10 - ELA Wednesday 4/11 - ELA Thursday 4/12 - ELA Friday 4/13 - No testing Monday 4/16 - Math Tuesday 4/17 - Math There will be NO HOMEWORK (except for reading and math facts) this week or next week! Please make sure your kiddo is getting a good night's rest and has a good breakfast and of course gets here on time!! If you received notification about sending in an item, please don't forget to send those in! The kids really look forward to all of the special snacks and treats! Biography Project: We will be working on a biography report here in the classroom over the next couple of weeks. We will have some opportunity to do research here in the classroom but if you have time to print out some articles at home that would help push this along! Plan on allowing your child to bring in their device on Friday, April 13th to allow for them to do research on their person. There is an "at-home" portion to this project and it will be due Friday, April 20th. We will be sending home information about this project this week. They will need to dress up as their selected person as well as create a desktop. This is a great opportunity for your child to get creative and figure out ways to not spend money on this project! After we complete the biography project we will be working on their own biography. This will require two things from you: When we request them, please send in 5-7 pictures of your child throughout their lives. These pictures will not be returned, so make sure they are a copy of the original! We will also be requesting a "bare book". This is a book that your child will be "publishing" their biography in. Here is the link from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Studio-Blank-Peter-Pauper-Press/dp/1441317368/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523305656&sr=8-2&keywords=blank+book+hardcover We will be having a very special day by having a "Book Signing" Day were the kids will share their biographies with the class and guests. This will be on Friday, May 18th at 10:30 am. Please mark your calendar as you do not want to miss this special day for our class.
