Dear Ford Families,
We are off to a great start to the 2017-2018 School Year! Thank you so much for your support through the first day of school, Open House and our first Bingo Night.
As you may know, the solar eclipse will occur Monday, August 21st. Our dismissal will be delayed for 45 minutes that day. Students will begin loading buses at 3pm and buses will leave Ford ES at 3:05. We request that all student check outs occur prior to 1:45 pm on August 21st..
Mrs. Cauffiel and classroom teachers have been teaching grade appropriate content about the eclipse to all students at Ford. Eclipse viewing plans have been approved for 3rd-5th grade students. A district permission form to obtain parent permission for students in grades 3-12 to participate in outdoor activities during the eclipse will be sent home today. The permission forms are due back by Friday, August 18th. A signed permission form is required for any student who will be outside during peak hours of the eclipse (2:00-3:00pm).
We will provide safety glasses for every student who returns a signed permission. We will review safety guideline with our students, but we encourage parents to have a conversation with their child as well. We are using the following resource for safety and security guidelines as recommended and outlined by NASA at: https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety
All students in grades K-2nd and those who do not return permission will be able to watch a one hour live broadcast via IPTV from Kennesaw Mountain High School showcasing the observatory/eclipse from 1:45 - 2:45 PM. Mrs. Cauffiel and Mrs. Trammell are working on a video to send to KMHS, so Ford students will be showcased during this broadcast.
We are very excited about the opportunity to provide our students a safe way to observe the solar eclipse. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the front office.
Sincerely,
Jami Frost
