I can't believe we only have 2.5 weeks left in this half of the year. It's going too fast!!
We still have lots to cover over the next two weeks and I know your kiddos are up for the challenge!
Reading: The kids are loving their literature circles. They are coming to the end of their novels and I love listening to the discussion happening during their Book Club meeting. We are continuing to work on understanding the text and answering explicit and implicit questions. We have also been responding to what we are reading with short answers as well as lengthier responses. They are learning how to respond to reading using the RACE (restate, answer, cite, explain) strategy. They are really doing great and I am very proud of them!
ELA: We are working our way through all of the verbs and are moving on to subject/verb agreement.
We are going to be ending this nine weeks with an informational writing assignment. Your child will pick an animal and write about different aspects of the animal. While all of the writing will be done in the classroom, please allow your child to research at home. I will be sending some great websites to help them to do their research. They are very excited about this!
MATH: We have wrapped up our unit on perimeter and area with a really cool robot creation. We are moving on to scaled graphing this coming week and we will wrap it up a review of the nine weeks to check for better understanding.
The kids have taken our challenge of getting through the "9s" seriously and they are hard at work! Please continue to work on those math facts at home. The fourth grade teachers keep begging us to make sure they have mastered them so that they are ready for next year!! They need to be fluent in addition/subtraction/multiplication/division by the end of the year. We will be taking a fluency checkpoint next week to see how much growth there has been!
Science: We are wrapping up our soil/weathering/erosion unit and will have a fun experiment next week.
Social Studies: We have two historical figures left to study for this unit and we will begin the end of next week. We will be discussing Frederick Douglass as well as Susan B. Anthony.
Holiday Party: Just a reminder that our holiday party is Wednesday, December 21, 1:00-2:00. We hope you can join us! Look for more information coming from Patty Payton, our awesome room mom, soon!
